Kyle Farmer Delivers Walk-Off Win for Twins in Home Opener

You know what’s even better than a delicious hot dog and a cold beer at a baseball game? Watching newcomer Kyle Farmer hit a walk-off and give the Twins a 3-2 win over the Astros in their home opener. That’s right, folks, this fresh face on the field proved that he’s got what it takes to send the sellout crowd home with a smile.

In 2017, Farmer hit a walk-off double in his first career at-bat. Fast forward to Friday, and he’s out here recording his second walk-off in the 10th inning. When asked about his late-game heroics, Farmer modestly said, “Any way to help the team win, that’s great, too.” We couldn’t agree more, Kyle.

Things were looking a little tense for the Twins in the 10th when Jose Miranda managed to tie the game at one-all after the Astros took the lead. But after an intentional walk to Donovan Solano, Farmer came in clutch, hitting a single up the middle and bringing home Trevor Larnach for a sweet, sweet victory.

But it’s not all fun and games in Twins-ville. The team is currently dealing with some pesky injuries, including outfielder Max Kepler, who’s battling patellar tendinitis in his right knee. Manager Rocco Baldelli says they’re holding off on placing him on the injured list for now, but that call is imminent. Joey Gallo also left Friday’s game with “right side soreness,” putting a damper on an otherwise great day for the team.

Down in sunny Fort Myers, Florida, Jorge Polanco (knee) has started a rehab assignment, while Alex Kirilloff (wrist) is still waiting on his own rehab assignment start date. Let’s hope these guys heal up quickly so they can help the Twins bring home even more walk-off wins!

In some unfortunate news, television play-by-play announcer Dick Bremer missed the home opener after testing positive for COVID-19, ending a 40-year streak. Radio announcer Cory Provus is filling in on television duties during his absence. Get well soon, Dick! We can’t wait to hear your voice again.
