Star Wars’ Grand Admiral Thrawn and David Tennant Join Ahsoka Series

Guess who’s back, back again? That’s right, Star Wars fans, your favorite blue-skinned bad guy, Grand Admiral Thrawn, is returning to our screens in the live-action Star Wars series, Ahsoka! And who better to bring this villain to life than Lars Mikkelsen, who previously voiced Thrawn in Star Wars Rebels? In true mischievous fashion, Mikkelsen kept us all guessing by denying that he’d be reprising the role – but the truth finally came out at the Star Wars Celebration in London. Sneaky, sneaky!

But Thrawn isn’t the only familiar face (or voice) we’ll be seeing in Ahsoka. David Tennant (yes, THE David Tennant from Doctor Who) is set to voice the droid Huyang, just like he did in the animated Clone Wars series. We’ll be jumping right back into the post–Return of the Jedi reconstruction era with this show, alongside The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett. Starring Rosario Dawson as the former Jedi knight, Ahsoka will see our heroes face off against an emerging threat to the vulnerable New Republic.

And what a star-studded cast they’ve assembled! Natasha Liu Bordizzo will play Sabine Wren, Eman Esfandi as Ezra Bridger, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla, Genevieve O’Reilly as Mon Mothma, Ray Stevenson and Ivanna Sakhno as the sinister Baylan Skolland and Shin Hati, Diana Lee Inosanto as Thrawn-loyalist Morgan Elsbeth, and a little droid named Chopper! *Cue audience ‘awww’*

The show has also brought on an impressive line-up of directors, including Rebels creator Dave Filoni, Steph Green (The Book of Boba Fett, Watchmen), Peter Ramsey (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, The Mandalorian), Jennifer Getzinger (Westworld, Jessica Jones), Geeta Patel (House of the Dragon), and Rick Famuyiwa (The Mandalorian).

Ahsoka is set to premiere in August 2023, so be sure to mark your calendars and get ready for some epic adventures in a galaxy far, far away. In the meantime, catch the trailer below and subscribe to TVLine’s email news alerts to stay updated on all things Ahsoka and more!
