University of Oklahoma Campus Declared Safe After False Active Shooter Alarm

Friday night at the University of Oklahoma’s Norman campus was lit…with panic and confusion. Around 9:30 p.m. CT, the university sent out a tweet about an active shooter and advised everyone to “Run. Hide. Fight!” Suddenly, college students had a different kind of all-nighter on their hands.

Thankfully, though, our story has a happy ending (unless you count the ruined Friday night plans). Just after 10:53 p.m. CT, the university announced on Twitter that the campus was secure and there was no threat to the community. Campus police gave an “all clear” alert after thoroughly searching the area and finding no threat.

The initial warning was followed by another tweet about possible shots fired on school grounds, but Oklahoma State Highway Patrol Trooper Eric Foster later confirmed to CNN that the campus was safe and no injuries were reported.

And just like that, the mysterious case of the maybe-shooter at the University of Oklahoma was closed, leaving everyone wondering if they really just heard fireworks after all. Students can now return to their regularly scheduled studying and partying, knowing that their campus is secure. Well, at least until the next round of finals.

To everyone involved, cheers to an exciting Friday night that turned out way less dramatic than it could have been! Remember, even when you’re chilling in your dorm or prepping for a night on the town, it’s always important to stay alert and be prepared for anything. Who knows, next time the situation might not be just a false alarm!
