Zendaya recently spilled the tea about her ongoing struggle to understand her beau Tom Holland’s British accent and the perplexing world of London slang. In an exclusive interview with The Sun, the 26-year-old actress admitted, “I love the British accent, but no matter how much Tom tries to explain it to me, I will never understand the colloquial poetry.”

Take the Cockney rhyming slang, for example. Zendaya said, “As I understand the concept—but what do apples and pears have to do with stairs?” She may have a point there! Still, she thinks it’s adorable when Holland tries to teach her the different phrases. She confessed, “It’s cute when he tells me all the different phrases — but I really don’t get it!”

These lovebirds first crossed paths on the set of Spider-Man: Homecoming in 2016, starting off as best friends before swinging into a romantic relationship. The couple, both 26, was recently spotted on a royal date in London, visiting King Henry VIII’s Hampton Court Palace. Who knows, maybe a trip to the past can help unravel the mysteries of the present-day lingo!
