Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn call it quits: Inside their amicable breakup

Well, Swifties, it’s the end of an era – Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn have officially broken up. ET has learned exclusively that the “Lavender Haze” singer and the British actor have called it quits a few weeks ago, but don’t worry, there’s no drama here! The split was amicable, and sources say that “the relationship had just run its course.”

Remember when Swift and Alwyn were #relationshipgoals? The pair started dating back in 2016, and a source even told ET in October that they were “doing great” and that their “relationship was super strong.” This update came just hours after Swift released her highly anticipated 10th studio album, Midnights, and its surprise 3am Edition, which included seven additional songs.

Swift has confirmed that the opening track, “Lavender Haze,” was inspired by her romance with Alwyn and their ability to shut out the world’s opinion. The couple has dodged rumors and tabloid headlines throughout their relationship, choosing to ignore them in order to protect their love. And let’s not forget the 2017 hit “Gorgeous” off her Reputation album, which Swift herself revealed to be 100% about her “angel boyfriend.”

Alwyn has also had a hand in Swift’s music, contributing to her 2020 albums Folklore and Evermore under the pseudonym William Bowery. Swift finally confirmed the secret alias in her Disney+ special, Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions, and Alwyn even went on to win a GRAMMY for his contributions.

As Swift continues her The Eras tour, we can’t help but wonder what this means for her music going forward. Will there be more heartbreak ballads or empowering anthems in her future? Only time will tell, but one thing’s for sure – we’ll be eagerly awaiting whatever T-Swift has in store for us next.
