Seattle Sounders Take Control with 3-0 Win Against St. Louis City SC

It’s official: St. Louis is feeling pretty blue after Saturday’s match. But hey, what did they expect coming up against the Seattle Sounders and their High Life Soccer style?

Sure, St. Louis City SC came out swinging in the first half, but it wasn’t long before the Sounders took control and won the game 3-0. Not too shabby for our boys, eh? The victory means the Sounders are now sitting pretty at first place in the West with 16 points and a +12 goal difference after just 7 games.

The first half of the game was a real slugfest, with both sides putting up a good fight. However, the tide began to turn in the second half, when Josh Atencio stepped up to the plate in the 65th minute. Atencio’s banger of a shot beat St. Louis goalkeeper Roman Bürki, and from there, it was all uphill for Seattle.

But it wasn’t just Atencio who made magic happen on the field. Raúl Ruidíaz made his mark on the scoreline with his first goal of the season. After capitalizing on a Bürki error, Ruidíaz easily netted the ball from inside the 6-yard box. Seattle added another goal in the 89th minute when a Lodeiro corner led to an own goal by St. Louis.

Josh Atencio, folks, deserves a special mention. After a rough start to his career in the Sounders first team, Atencio has really come into his own. His dynamism on the field proved crucial in breaking St. Louis’s press and nabbing his first MLS goal. Out of the competition for spots in the Sounders midfield, Atencio is the one to watch.

And let’s not forget the impressive home record Seattle has set this season. Having given up zero goals at Lumen Field in four games, the team is certainly making it hard for visiting sides to score. With three wins and a scoreless draw against LAFC under their belt, it looks like the Sounders have their sights set on redemption this season.

So, while St. Louis City SC may be feeling a little deflated after this match, it just goes to show that you can’t keep a good Sounder down. After a strong start to the season and some truly standout performances, the Sounders are showing no signs of slowing down. The road ahead looks promising, and with this team on our side, we’ve got a feeling that big things are coming our way.
