Condé Nast Sues Rappers 21 Savage and Drake for $4 Million Over Fake Vogue Cover

Can you believe it? Rappers 21 Savage and Drake were hit with a whopping $4 million lawsuit by none other than Condé Nast over a fake Vogue magazine cover promoting their latest chart-topping album, “Her Loss.” Thankfully for our music-loving ears, the rappers and Condé Nast reached a settlement last Thursday.

But, let’s backtrack a bit. Apparently, the fake cover spread like wildfire on social media, causing confusion among the public, who believed the counterfeit issue and cover were real. Hey, who can blame them? Seeing these two iconic rappers on the cover of Vogue would undoubtedly have been a fashion moment!

Condé Nast’s general counsel, Will Bowes, noted that the company does understand that its brands may be referenced in creative works, but felt Drake and 21 Savage “leveraged Vogue’s reputation for their own commercial purposes,” creating confusion in the process.

The lawsuit was settled for an unspecified amount that will, according to Bowes, “bolster ongoing creative output, including Vogue editorial.” Moreover, a permanent injunction barring further commercial use of Vogue trademarks was issued.

Both 21 Savage and Drake have yet to publicly comment on the ruling. While we won’t see these rappers grace an authentic Vogue cover any time soon, we can at least enjoy their chart-topping music and imagine what might have been!
