Lucasfilm Announces Three New “Star Wars” Live-Action Films with Star-Studded Directors

“Star Wars” fans, rejoice! Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy recently announced that three new live-action films are on the way, expanding the past, present, and future of the franchise. James Mangold, Dave Filoni, and two-time Academy Award winner Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy are at the helm of these films, bringing their respective directing expertise to the table.

Mangold’s film will take fans back to the beginning of it all, telling the story of the first Jedi to wield the Force in an era of chaos and oppression. Filoni’s project, on the other hand, promises a cinematic event that ties together various series in the “Star Wars” universe. Meanwhile, Obaid-Chinoy’s film, set 15 years after “The Rise of Skywalker,” will follow the story of the rebuilding of the new Jedi Order.

Perhaps the most exciting news for fans is the return of Daisy Ridley as Rey in Obaid-Chinoy’s film. Ridley appeared on stage at the Star Wars Celebration, expressing her thrill to continue the journey of her character. However, fans have mixed reactions to her return, with some welcoming her back with open arms and others not so enthusiastic.

While it’s currently unclear whether Ridley’s return will lead to a new trilogy or simply a standalone film, the possibility of more “Star Wars” adventures has fans excited and curious about the future of the Skywalker Saga.
