Auburn Tigers Power Through Rainy A-Day Scrimmage to Showcase Team’s Progress

Rain or shine, nothing stops a good ol’ game of football, am I right? That’s exactly what went down during the 2023 A-Day scrimmage, where the unrelenting rain showers couldn’t dampen the spirits of over 16,000 dedicated Auburn fans at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Talk about die-hard devotion!

As the game kicked off with Auburn’s defense bagging 24 points, the offense scrambled to keep up. It wasn’t easy peasy with the stormy weather, but that didn’t stop Robby Ashford from scoring the first touchdown. Gotta give the guy some credit, right? And let’s not forget Justin Jones and his own touchdown, followed by Evan McGuire nailing a 19-yard field goal, and Alex McPherson hitting not one but two field goals! If this isn’t teamwork, we don’t know what is.

It felt more like an intense late October game rather than a spring scrimmage, but these weather conditions didn’t stop our fearless leader, Coach Hugh Freeze, from addressing the team’s progress at his post-A-Day press conference. Ever the gracious host, Freeze kicked things off by thanking the fans and the Tiger band for showing up in droves despite the chilly downpour.

As the topic of quarterbacks took center stage, Freeze admitted he’s feeling better about the position now than he was before spring camp, but there’s still much to be done before fall. Singling out Robby Ashford, Freeze revealed he’s not sure if anyone has “really challenged him like I did this Spring” and praised Ashford’s progress, noting a particularly “good seam ball in those conditions.”

Clearly, our beloved Tigers have shown some great progress and promise at the 2023 A-Day scrimmage, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds. If you missed any of the action or just want to relive the moment, stay tuned for more live updates on AL.com/Auburnfootball!
